Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP) in Mathematics

APP is a structured approach to periodically assessing mathematics and reading and writing so teachers can track pupils' progress and use diagnostic information about pupils' strengths and weaknesses.

Over the course of 2008/09, Stoke LA will be providing a comprehensive central training programme to support school leaders and practitioners in using APP to impact on teaching and learning and pupil attainment.

Stoke Primary schools will have opted to join the APP training programme as either the 'Lead Cohort', 'Cohort One' or 'Cohort Two'.  Each of these cohorts follow a common pattern in terms of training:

Using APP to drive improvement - HT part one   Y 2,3,4 Teacher CPD - day one  Y 2,3,4 Teacher CPD - day two  Using APP to drive improvement - HT part two
 Target audience 3 places per school for key practitioners who will be instrumental in the school roll-out.  One member of staff to focus on reading, one on writing, one on mathemetics. Aimed at HT/SLT to focus on using APP to impact on learning, teaching and attainment. 2 funded places per school for Y234 (possibly Y5) teachers.  This day will focus on securing level 3 in writing and mathematics. Follow-up to day one.  It is essential that the same teachers who attended day one attend day two. Aimed at HT/SLT to focus on the impact of APP and the teacher CPD, as well as planning for further developent 2009/10
