Curricular Targets

These resources have been created as part of the ISP (Intensifying Support Programme) but schools may choose to adapt them if appropriate for their own use.

CURRICULAR TARGETS

Curricular targets are whole school targets based on learning objectives.  They are informed and identified by analysis of children’s work, discussions with children, teachers’ assessment information and test performance.  The target should reflect  whole-school priorities and areas for improvement.

CLASS PROFILE SHEETS

The class profile sheets are intended to be used by teachers in order to identify pupils in four broad groups: underperforming; target; on-track; more able.

LAYERED TARGETS

Each year group target is broken into 3 layers – must (based on learning objectives from the previous year), should (based on the appropriate year’s learning objectives), could (based on the following year’s objectives).

The expectation should be that pupils achieve the following targets:

Group

Expectation

underperforming

must target (for some children in this group who are on the SEN register it may be more appropriate to work on a target from their IEP/GEP)

target

should target (this target will be challenging for some, but is necessary so that pupils can begin to move towards being on-track)

on-track

should target

more able

could target

SO WHAT ARE THE ‘MONSTER’ SHEETS?

The grids in the monster folder are intended to support teachers by breaking down the layered targets into ‘bite-sized’ chunks, which children could work on during the course of the half-term.  Where appropriate, pupils could use laminated copies of the steps to support self/peer-assessment.  Teachers might also use them as means to support/monitor guided work and to record progress made when a target is not fully met.  Please note 'Monster' sheets do not exist for all literacy targets, since they have been written to meet specific school needs.
